Roaring Springs Waterpark and Wahooz Family Fun Zone in Meridian will undergo a combined $6.1 million expansion this year.

The announcement was made during Mayor Tammy de Weerd’s State of the City address.

The children’s play area at Roaring Springs will get a new look as Bearfoot Bay. That will include three new slides and 20 new animal-themed play elements, according to the announcement. The shallow pool area will be designed to look like a watery wilderness. The expansion also includes new cabanas and shade umbrellas extending over the pool.

Bearfoot Bay is expected to open May 13, which is also the park’s opening day for the 2018 season.

Wahooz is set to get a new 10,000-square-foot event center. The new event center will be Meridian’s largest, with capacity for up to 600 people. The event center will also get a new catering kitchen.

The event center is expected to open in November.

The Wahooz expansion comes on the heels of another recently completed 17,000-square-foot expansion at the facility that brought eight new attractions to Wahooz.
