Rocky Mountain High School senior Hayden Voorhees will represent TeamUSA at the Freestyle Kayaking World Championships Nov. 27 through Dec. 2 in San Juan, Argentina.

The U.S. team is made up of the top three junior men in the country, according to Jody Voorhees, Hayden’s mother.

The championships are held every other year by the International Canoe Federation. In 2015, Voorhees took 10th place in the semi-finals, and his older brother, Alec, placed second.

“When our kids were born, we were already kayaking,” Jody Voorhees, told the Meridian Press in 2015. “I mean, I was kayaking when I was pregnant with them.”

The brothers started out on inflatable rafts on the Payette River at age 2.

The Freestyle Kayaking World Championships is the sport’s premier competition, Alec said in 2015. Competitors perform a routine of tricks to earn as many points as possible in a set amount of time. Each trick has a different point value based on how difficult it is.

Hayden Voorhees will spend two weeks in Argentina to prepare before the competition.
