Gem Prep: Meridian, a public charter school set to open in August, has purchased a building at 2750 E. Gala St., according to a press release from the school.

With the sale finalized, the school will continue in its efforts to hire staff members and talk to families about enrollment. An informational meeting about the school and lottery registration is 6-7 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Idaho Distance Education Academy campus, 8620 W. Emerald St. Suite 190, Boise.

Gem Prep: Meridian’s 31,000-square foot building is on four acres along Overland Road, west of Eagle Road. It was built in 2011 and previously used by Broadview University.

The school will open to K-6 students and expand up to 12th grade in coming years. Gem Prep: Meridian is part of a family of free public charter schools that uses online learning for part of the school day so students can work at their own pace and build digital skills.

“In a community that is developing in technology at a rapid pace, we look forward to creating this opportunity for the students and families in Meridian and the surrounding areas,” stated Celeste Grover, Gem Prep: Meridian operations manager.
