Hilton is bringing its line of Tru hotels to Meridian with a new location on Eagle Road. The Meridian Chamber of Commerce officiated a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday at the future hotel site: 1401 S. Eagle Road, just south of Interstate 84.

The Tru by Hilton Boise West is slated to have four floors, 92 rooms and a staff of 20 to 25 people, according to a hotel spokeswoman. Construction is planned to start this month, with an open date tentatively scheduled for December or January.

Meridian planning staff are still reviewing the application, city planner Caleb Hood said Wednesday. The application will then need to go through the building permit process, but it won't need City Council approval.

Tru is a midscale line of Hilton hotels that offers value and a fresh look, according to the hotel's website. About 200 Tru locations are in various stages of development.

The Tru design includes a four-zone lobby, called the "Hive," with dedicated space for working, playing, lounging and eating. The hotel offers a 24/7 market, fitness studio and other amenities.

The Tru in Meridian will be 43,726 square feet on 1.75 acres, Hood said.

Another hotel is under construction in Meridian on North Eagle Road called My Place Hotel. This will be one of the chain's first Idaho locations.

Before these two hotel projects, Meridian had not seen a new hotel for several years, Hood said. Most of the city's hotels are along the Eagle Road corridor.

The city of Meridian in 2015 sought applications from developers interested in building a hotel and event center in downtown Meridian, but no developers submitted proposals.

Several hotels are under construction in the neighboring cities of Boise and Nampa.
