Authorities arrested a Utah man in Meridian March 17 after finding a pound of marijuana and psilocybin mushrooms in his vehicle, according to the Ada County Sheriff’s Office.

Lee Thomas Smith, 27, was pulled over on Eagle Road near East Taconic Drive at 8 p.m. because of a burned-out headlight, the sheriff’s office reports.

Deputies said they smelled marijuana in the car, so they called in a K-9, who alerted deputies to drugs inside the car.

Deputies searched the car and found illegal drugs, a loaded handgun, a sword and more than $2,400 in cash, according to the sheriff’s office. One pound of marijuana was reportedly divided into several different plastic bags, and deputies also found a large plastic bag full of mushrooms, material that appears to be hash oil, a bag of as yet unidentified pills, and drug paraphernalia.

Smith is charged with drug trafficking and a felony count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. Other charges are possible in connection with the case.

Smith was arrested Friday and was scheduled to appear in court Monday afternoon.
