Meridian man dies after snowboarding crash in Sun Valley By KBOI-TV and Meridian Press staff Feb 28, 2017 (…) SUN VALLEY — A 34-year-old Meridian snowboarder died over the weekend after a crash while skiing at Sun Valley.Blaine County Coroner Russ Mikel told KBOI 2News that Derek Klein was found unresponsive at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday in a tree well.Sun Valley Ski Patrol said Klein was found near the Can-Can ski run. He was reportedly given CPR by members of the patrol team and taken to the River Run base area. Ketchum Fire then transported Klein to St. Luke’s Wood River, where he was pronounced dead at about 3 p.m. Story continues below video × Advertisement Mikel said his office is still investigating a cause of death.Friends of Klein are posting their grief and extending encouragement to Klein’s family through Facebook.A member of the Facebook group, “Meridian Ultimate Frisbee,” said: “As many of you already know we lost one of our brothers this weekend in an unfortunate snowboarding accident. He will be missed beyond measure by all of our group and by so many more. Feel free to post photos, memories and prayers.” Another person posted: “You were always a great older brother to me Derek. Helped shape me into who I am today and I’ll forever be grateful. I’ll miss ya bud and am thankful that I’ll get to see ya again someday.”According to Klein’s Facebook and LinkedIn pages, he grew up in Wilder, graduated from Boise State University and was an engineer at Marvell Technology Group.
